Algorand Foundation CEO Implements Decentralized Governance to Create Ethical Leadership

When it comes to general blockchain adoption, community engagement is a key strategy for Algorand Foundation. Sean Lee, CEO of Algorand Foundation and keynote speaker for the 6th Annual European Blockchain Convention, spoke at length about the importance and benefits of direct community involvement and impact projects. Lee highlighted Algorand’s new Governance program, an initiative with over 70,000 governors around the world contributing direct feedback to the direction of programs and partnerships led by the organization.

“We are taking about a third of our tokens and putting them in the hands of our governors, said Lee. Governance [has] become a key pillar of what Algorand will be working on moving forward”

Algorand’s highly diversified portfolio includes a rapidly growing DeFi system, NFTs to support digital art and IP, along with some of the strongest global stablecoin currencies.

The robust portfolio has allowed Algorand the opportunity to develop unique social impact programs across many fields, most notably green energy projects. A newer project, Planetwatch, is a community-led decentralized network engaged in global air monitoring to detect pollution and global air patterns. Lee noted that he has a sensor on his own balcony to contribute data to the project.

“We are all very passionate about the notion of blockchain for good”

Algorand’s reputation for green projects is long standing, as they are notably a carbon-neutral organization nearing carbon negative status.

As a founding member of the Crypto Impact and Sustainability Accelerator (CISA) with the World Economic Forum, Algorand remains committed to working with policy makers and world leaders to develop a space where crypto and traditional banking can work together. Lee believes that “healthy regulation and healthy policy making will actually help crypto become more mainstream.” As crypto adoption continues to expand, Lee is confident that the work Algorand is doing with CISA will continue to generate more.
